Meet the Dentists
Dr. Jenelle Hyland
I was born and raised a Saskatchewan farm girl. It is this upbringing I credit for making me the woman I am today: work hard, treat people well, and appreciate the little things.
I attended the University of Saskatchewan, where I received my degree in Dentistry in 1996. I moved to Medicine Hat, started my career at Courtyard Dental, and have been here ever since.
My husband Colin and I have two children: Grace and Carter. We have a dancer and a soccer/lacrosse player. Much of our time is spent volunteering for their various extra-curricular organizations.
While not at work, I enjoy spending time with my family, baking, travelling, a little bit of exercise, and the odd glass of red wine with friends.
I look forward to many more years with our outstanding team at Courtyard.
Dr. Mike Lemeshuk
Born and raised in Medicine Hat, I have developed a strong connection to our community through family and friends. I attended Medicine Hat College for Undergraduate Studies before obtaining a Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the University of Alberta in 2010, after which I began my practice at Courtyard Dental Centre.
I am actively involved in Big Brothers Big Sisters of Medicine Hat, and continue finding fulfillment with the relationships I have established through this organization. My interests include guitar, snowboarding, golf, and outdoor activities in our wonderful climate. I live with my wife Ashley and our Golden Retriever. We welcomed our first child Adam in 2017, and look forward to raising a family in this fantastic city.
Dr. Ashley Spitz
I am originally from Edmonton where I attended the University of Alberta, graduating with a Doctor of Dental Surgery Degree in 2010. I met my husband while attending University and he is what brought me to Medicine Hat. I moved here in 2011 and have found it to be such a friendly and welcoming community, not to mention the much better weather! I am an active member of the Kinette Club of Medicine Hat and am enjoying learning more about the community by volunteering through this organization. In my free time I love to cook and bake, walk the many beautiful park trails in and around Medicine Hat, ski, read, and spend time with my husband, our son Adam, and our dog Ally.
Dr. Kira Smigelski
Dr. Kira Smigelski grew up in the small town of Oyen, Alberta, 190 km north of Medicine Hat. After attending Mount Royal University for three years, Kira was accepted into the Doctor of Dental Surgery program at the University of Alberta.
One of Kira's highlights from dental school included going on a mission trip to Guatemala where she provided free dental work for those in need. In Kira's final year of school, she was honoured to receive two awards recognizing superior academic achievement and superior aptitude in the use of restorative materials.
In Kira's spare time you can find her at her second home, a farm near Bindloss AB, where she enjoys the country life of gardening, kayaking, and fishing with her boyfriend. Kira also enjoys snowboarding, watching her nieces and nephews play hockey, and camping in the summer.
Kira is beyond excited to be joining Courtyard Dental Centre and working with an incredible team.
Dr. Austin Franklin
I was born and raised here in Medicine Hat, and before pursuing dentistry, I was first a journeyman electrician and worked at two nearby industrial facilities over ten years.
I then completed two years of undergraduate studies at Medicine Hat College before entering the Doctor of Dental Surgery program at the University of Alberta.
My wife, Janelle, and I have two amazing kids - Harper and Greyson - and they do a great job of keeping us busy with all of their activities.
Outside of work, I love to travel, golf, bike and go to concerts. I'm thrilled to have the opportunity to provide dental care for my home community while working with the amazing team at Courtyard Dental!
